Here you can find the answers to some of the most asked questions about our show, RSBANDBUpdate!

What is a podcast?

A Podcast is an online audio or video production. What makes it different than any file you download on the web is that it has the ability to be downloaded automatically. It uses RSS (Really Simple Syndication) to accomplish this. Podcasts are downloaded to a personal computer or portable player.

Contrary to the name there is no need for an iPod to listen to podcasts. All you need is a pod-catcher. There are many of these available, they automatically fetch podcasts when publishers add new episodes. Two examples of popular pod-catchers are iTunesPocket Casts (iOS and Android), and Google Play Music. If you prefer, you can also synchronize your podcasts with various web services, a popular one is Podnova. There is no need though to use one of these clients or services if you don’t want to. You can simply download the MP3 just like any other file online.

You can check out Wikipedia for a more in depth article on podcasting.

How do I automatically be notified when a new episode is ready (subscribe)?

How do you guys record the show if you’re thousands of miles (or lightyears) away from eachother?

The core of RSBANDBUpdate! today is Discord. We used Skype for many years but over time the Skype application has become increasingly cumbersome and Discord provides a better frequency response for human voice (this means that Discord’s compression doesn’t chop off as many frequencies as Skype does resulting in a more accurate representation of human voice). You can join the RSBANDB Discord here and freely listen to any RSBANDBUpdate! recordings.

Shane speaks locally into a Heil PR40 microphone that is piped into a Mackie ProFX8V2 mixer. The audio output from the computer where Discord resides is also sent into the mixer. The mixer then sends both tracks back to the computer over USB. A standard audio interface would be enough for what we have up to here but there have been occasions where utilizing a phone for a connection has been required. Once the signal heads back to the computer Audio Hijack Pro grabs the channel audio from Shane and sends it to a virtual audio device. This audio device then serves as the input to Discord. One of the reasons RSBANDBUpdate! relies on a Mac for production is Audio Hijack Pro and Soundflower. macOS also allows for the creation of bridged audio devices that combine two audio devices, this enables us to send system audio and Discord audio out through the same channel.

Where do I get such an amazing voice like Cireon’s?

You can’t. Cireon’s voice is limited to the sophisticated practices afforded by Dutch human engineering. There’s also something to be said about his hair too with regards to this process.
