- “It’s not taking away resources from other updates” → of course it is, the money for the team that was hired could have been used for a team for new updates, like Sailing
- Is this the price we pay for not getting MTX?
- Just like bonds did for RWT: if you can’t fight private servers, take a piece of the pie!
- Player-created content almost unilaterally increases the longevity of a game
- Good example: plugins!
- But does any other MMORPG have moddability on the world level?
- Cireon: I’m all in favour of creating a sandbox environment for player-created content, but how long are people going to remain interested in servers with low population?
- Would it be better long-term to support a quest creation tool that just instantiates in existing servers, similar to quest speedrunning?
- How do different servers affect the community effect?
- Given that the GE won’t be shared, only big existing communities - which tend to only exist around content creators, with some exceptions - will really create any economy appealing to non-ironman.
- Unless you can just put rare drops in a shop…
- A clan (or… each clan) playing on their own server, is that desirable?
- How much does cost play in success?
- … what about limitations?
- What if it ends up only really allowing to change a few parameters. Are the expectations too high?
- “Eventually” they want to support player creations, but they’re focusing on MVP now. If the MVP ends up allowing little customisation, it may be dead before the powerful creation tools are ready to launch
- But what if we decouple it altogether from community servers being a “mirror” of the main game, and use the server as an engine to enable specific activities?
- A prop hunt server
- Clan Wars/Castle Wars server, but in the main world on an immense scale
- In general: faction based combat where different factions control different regions
- World events!
- General sentiment (Cireon): besides sailing, another big bet with a huge investment with a high risk of not paying off
- More gritty
- Quests: Heart of Darkness, Death on the Isle, and more
- Can’t wait to see where they take murder mysteries next
- Potion Storage 😍
- Colossal Wyrm agility
- Loving the graceful outfit override. Probably going to be my override of choice for ironman
- 50 agility & 62 agility → the latter sits right on top of seer’s village course, which is some of the fastest xp & graceful tokens in the game (with hard Kandarin diary). The former sits on the Falador course which makes it potentially even less relevant, since people like to stick with Canifis for more tokens.
- Low intensity may make it popular, but it’s still not afkable and just puts it in this awkward afk space.
- Biome variety and leaning into OSRS look and feel!
- Master quest finale: puts it right alongside A Kingdom Divided for them to merge the storylines in an ultimate grandmaster
- No city of bards? 😢
- Doom of the Mokhaiotl - Low-intensity boss, but also enrage mechanics?
- Fletching activity is good, but please don’t make it like gnome restaurant.
- One of Shane’s biggest things the OS team can do to evolve and advance the game.
- Defender of Varrock changes were pretty minimal → hard to know at this point what “with an OSRS twist” really means
- Interesting that Missing My Mummy is also part of this tie-in
- Rewards: Zemouregal Fortress & Zombie Helmet
- Realistically, this is PvP clan content. Large enough clans will be able to prevent individuals from participating (except maybe in single combat).
- Having forcing functions for PvP clans going head to head, vying over control of the Wrathmaw spawn locations, actually sounds like a good thing.
- Fixed spawn rate with predictable drops → completely fixed supply of rewards
- Drops based on participation
- Keeps the value of these rewards high, but…
- Can these rewards ever be made best in slot?
- The start of dailies and FOMO in OSRS
- Comparable to warbands in RS3, which never had the intended outcome
- Area unlocks were fun, but would’ve liked to see divisions along different lines
- Content isn’t going to move, so how are Leagues going to continue to be dynamic
- What’s there to prevent a solid repeatable meta from appearing?
- Like the idea of untangling combat mastery from relics
- Leagues => Game improvements for main
- Locked inventory slots for bank interface 🤩
- Second batch of most impactful game updates for Shane
- Giant Bosses (Spring 2025)
- Keys for Obor and Bryophyta
- What is the difference with slayer bosses? Should they be?
