RuneScape Discussion
- Quest Description: Zemouregal is up to something. While your newly arrived Guards - under the command of the Raptor - help keep his undead hordes at bay, it's time to delve into the crypt and find out what he's planning. Along the way, you'll get to upgrade your Fort with a potent new Fletching building as you arm yourselves to better face this growing threat.
- The need for a captain and the Ranger’s workroom
- Material ghoul
- Dragonkin device
- A visit to Reldo and a trip into The Raptor’s dreams
- The monochromatic environment: accessibility
- Raptor and player character swapping
- The stone movements: accessibility
- Circling back to the other cutscene in the quest and presented portrait.
- The cutscene
- RuneScape’s best cutscene and a top dramatic moment?
- Clarification on this came in Mod Jack’s livestream and from Mod Stu’s social media posts, essentially: the Raptor now uses the male PC skeleton. Part of the reason he looks weird now is that Stu used an angry idle animation, which is going to be changed for Monday(?) to a neutral animation. Would have been better for everyone if the new model had come in before the quest launch, but for practical reasons that didn't work out.

- Diversity and inclusion
- Focus: Ellamaria, Queen of Misthalin, for a Misthalin storyline
- A character with nuance that was portrayed as an ass in Garden of Tranquility. Since this is the Misthalin storyline she should play a large part of the quest.
- Up until this storyline Ellamaria has been an asshole and portrayed horribly. Murder on the Border started the course correction but in Dead and Buried we see a quest that gives The Raptor/Ellamaria independence, a unique character definition, defined by her actions. Actions that are not typical but are heroic.
- Upgrades the characters of both The Raptor and Ellamaria from two to three dimensions, but puts an immediate end to the mystery of The Raptor in the process.
- Investigating the crypt and slide puzzle
- Kill zombies for pieces
- Sliding puzzle i.e. clue scrolls
- Ungael, in Fremennik waters: an island guarded by a powerful dragon, a ship will be chartered.
- A cliffhanger that needed 5 more minutes of resolution?
- The question of length and plot point resolution from Mod Jack’s stream: Regardless of this quest, it was a mistake to ask for a specific plot point to be delivered that wasn’t critical to the storyline. It’s not critical to the Fort that Ellamaria be central to the quest. There’s been a gradual decline in the need for quests to hit specific plot points and what they need to do coming out of the Sixth Age. Elder God Wars was more consistent in terms of lore and story points that they needed to hit. Going forward Mod Jack won’t be dictating specific plot points that need to be resolved primarily unless they are critical (updates just don’t make sense without them rather than this would be a cool plot point for a character).

- Continuing the Misthalin Storyline (from Mod Jack’s livestream)
- The storyline should have a concrete presented identity and the seasons should have their own identities.
- These are then part of the “Age of Chaos”.
- An Age is a big overarching loose theme.
- Neither the term of Age or Age of Chaos are official terminology.
- “If we’re getting distracted for 6 months we’re not really making progress on that storyline.” – Mod Jack
- This is where we get one-off things, like gnomes given as an example.
- The purpose of quests going forward
- The core focus of the content is Fort Forinthry. The quests aren’t necessarily the centrepieces. This is why the quests feel smaller with a lack of boldness that we saw in EGW and Sixth Age.
- The quests are the glue rather than the object. I.e. questing around the new skilling hub of Fort Forinthry
- This is backed up by Mod Jack’s comments that quests since the Sixth Age have tried to hone in on plot points, this was difficult during EGW since it was a huge storyline with points that needed to be resolved. See last point:

- Wood Box functionality has been added for Wood Spirits to improve Inventory management.
- Items stored in a Wood Box will organise themselves based on level.
- The 'My Fort Smells of Rich Mahogany' achievement now requires Maple Planks to fit better with other medium level area achievement requirements.
- The Quest Cape and I've Got a Little List (of Miniquests) achievements now list their requirements in release order rather than alphabetical order.
- Fletching buffs for saving resources and auto-stringing unstrung bows now have additive percentage chance when multiple buffs with the same effect are active, instead of rolling for each buff separately and choosing the first one to proc (e.g. Crystal Knife and Wergali incense). This more accurately represents the desired outcome of stacking random chance buffs and provides an increased probability for the effect to proc.
- Additional XP is now awarded when the Fletching Skillcape inspires you to craft extra ranged ammunition and headless arrows. The chat message now points out that 'an extra bundle' has been made instead of 'double', allowing for other buffs that provide additional bundles to proc at the same time.
- Buffs for saving fletching resources no longer send the extra resources to the bank, instead they are not removed from the inventory. The fletched product will be sent to the bank if saving resources resulted in not having enough space to receive it.
- Saving logs via a buff while fletching an unstrung bow or crossbow stock would previously not subtract an action from the MakeX queue, allowing extras to be fletched within the same queue. Although this can be a useful feature, it has been removed to remain consistent with the other instances where the buff to save fletching resources procs, and to prevent the seemingly-buggy behaviour of the MakeX interface which would not increment a craft in the progress bar and add more time onto the countdown clock. It was also a consideration that a player may not wish to use their saved logs on crafting another of the same item.
- The portable fletcher no longer provides a chance to string two crossbows at once.
- The portable fletcher now allows a chance to save resources when making unstrung crossbows, as well as producing two at once. If both effects proc, saving resources will only apply to one of the fletched items.
- Better continuity across fletching skilling pet rolls: when a buff to fletch multiple items at once procs and/or the buff to automatically string a bow procs, the XP is awarded accordingly for all output items and the skilling pet roll is calculated using that XP value. Boosts applied directly to XP gain do not provide additional chance. Elder God Arrows were the only instance where the skilling pet roll was calculated using buffed XP; this has been amended to remain consistent with other fletched items, however additional XP and skilling pet chance is now provided if the 'extra ammo' buff procs.
