- The Vital Spark drop rate now scales with the Slayer level required to kill the creature, meaning the Imperial Guards and Gorilla Ahks offer greater chances of Vital Sparks.
- You can now venture deeper into the dungeon and fight tougher creatures for increased chances of scoring Vital Sparks.
- Corrupt Scorpions’ odds of dropping salvage have been reduced slightly.
- The dungeon is now split into three different zones.
- Zone 1 (from the start until you jump down the cliff after the first boss):
- The drop table is bare bones and has been greatly reduced from the current live drop table.
- Combat XP has been reduced by a large margin.
- Zone 2 (from the end of Zone 1 until you jump down the cliff after the second boss):
- Remains the same as the current live loot table. Zone 3 (the rest of the dungeon):
- Has an improved loot table compared to the current live loot table.
- All three bosses have had their common loot tables buffed to compensate for the reduction in drop value from Zone 1.
- The Friends' Chat player limit has been increased from 100 to 500. *NOTE: This change will not take effect until the release of the OSRS Update on Wednesday*
- The FC vs FC arena is still limited to 100 vs 100 in Stealing Creation.
- The overflow that occurred if too many players joined a team in Stealing Creation has been fixed.
- The Pride mini-event can now be played on free-to-play worlds.
- Corrected the order of the colours on the Pride Banner.
- Improved the Communication Device when teleporting to Zamorak's hideout in Twilight of the Gods.
- The scaffolding in post-war Senntisten will no longer kick players out of the instance during Twilight of the Gods.
- Dying in War's Retreat now counts as a Safe Death after a hotfix last week.
- The 'Handed in all plushies' dummy object can no longer be found at the Grand Exchange.
- The Polishing perk now correctly upgrades Sea Salt to Alaea Sea Salt when mining Salty Crabletines.
- $10.2m from 1.4m downloads.
- 40% of the total player base is on mobile.
- “About half of that number play purely on mobile, and the other half play on both mobile and desktop.” - RuneScape Product Director Matt Casey (Mod Mic)
- ~20% of players play mobile exclusively.
- Cireon took a huge interest in this story since mobile game monetization is something he follows closely. He had anticipated that 40% of the players had maybe opened up mobile beside their desktop while playing, but 1/5 playing exclusively was a shock to Cireon.
- “In terms of a new audience and players that hadn’t played the game before, we have found it harder to hold on to those players, because it’s an unfamiliar experience. What was a bit of a surprise was the volume of new players we did see initially…”
- This leads us to infer that Jagex was surprised at seeing an influx of new players.
- With Jagex surprised at new players arriving, this infers that acquisition of new users wasn’t the main goal for RS Mobile which is contrary to what we were expecting mobile to hone in on.
- This matches what we saw in the player graphs: a small bump, but after a couple of months the player levels were back to the levels from before the launch. It wasn't clear to us that Mobile was really a success.
- What we're looking at now is Jagex building RS Mobile over the course of several years as a retention tool perhaps? It almost seems like Jagex built mobile because they were bleeding out hard on players, and maybe this would keep them engaged for longer? If we simplify things based on the numbers, perhaps RS would have indeed had 20% of the people who play now quit in the last year instead.
- Either: We have been wrong this entire time or Jagex is releasing the data now showing what’s happening under the hood.
- The re-frame.
