RuneScape Discussion
- Keybinds for the action button trigger (such as the one used to place a Blessing of Nature or to phase into the mind of Solak) no longer triggers while chat is in focus.
- The Cleaners have swept up the Remnants of the Yak Track area in Burthorpe.
- Player no longer disappears halfway through the Hefin rope slide animation.
- Dominion Gloves no longer visually stall your movement when they activate. A number of abilities and items were causing player movement to visually stall on use. These have now been fixed. These changes should make combat feel smoother.
- The Staff of Sliske special attack will no longer stall your movement when cast. Ranged abilities will no longer visually stall you in place when used.
- Special attacks from the God Staves will no longer visually stall you when moving after casting.
- When sharing damage via Soul Link you will no longer be visually stalled if moving around.
- Using Bladed dive on an NPC no longer changes their name to "Tap to Find a Target" or change their combat level to N/A.
- A kill timer is now available at Kalphite Queen and the Corporeal Beast.
- Closing certain chat-based input dialogues no longer causes clicks to sometimes be ignored where the dialogue used to be.
- Ice spells in the Ancient Spellbook now have descriptions that match their effects.
- Expanded drop-down menus in the world-hop interface now hide correctly when settings are closed.
- Retrieving runes from the large yellow rune pouch no longer equips the item from within the bank interface.
- The boss portal ‘attune’ interface has been updated.
- Legacy combat users will no longer be able to see creatures walking about with 0 hit points.
- During 'the great brain robbery' quest, Dr Frankenstrain will no longer take all of your hammers, he will now correctly take 1 hammer.
- Ironmen will now return to the entrance of the Kalphite Queen's lair upon exiting the Do No Evil cutscene located in the same area instead of joining an open instance.
- Frost dragons will now consistently work towards both Dragons cluster tasks and Creatures of Daemonheim cluster tasks assigned from Laniakea.
- Free To Play Players retrieving Members items from death will not be told to partially empty their bank.
- Adamant Dragons were incorrectly giving too many inert Adrenaline Crystals. This has now been reduced to its intended amount.
- An issue where logging into F2P would sometimes switch your currently selected action bar has been fixed.
- Brawling gloves are no longer shown on items saved on the death list when entering the wilderness.
- The charming imp can now place collected spirit gems directly into the spirit gem bag.
- Fixed an issue where players could lose POH aquarium eggs and not be able to prestige the aquarium. Previously, there was an issue where players who lost their eggs would not be able to prestige their aquarium. Those who have experienced this bug will find the fish in their tank and do not need to reacquire the fish egg.
- POH aquarium eggs will no longer be lost on death.
- Fixed an issue where the prize pool for Gone Yak Tracking would not be refreshed from the previous promo.
- Mining and Smithing Changes (Feb 3)
- Right now with 0 stamina you’ll do 80% damage to a rock. With these changes this will go down to 20%. This will lower the XP and ores for AFK mining.
- Perfect mining juju potions when combined with stone spirits will recharge stamina.
- Stamina doesn’t affect red sandstone.
- Each bar (that goes into an item) will be worth 4 invention components/parts if you break it down. Elder rune will have a higher chance of breaking down into components instead of parts.
- The breakdown perk will have a flat percentage (0.8%)
- Is the success of something determined purely on engagement? When tied to Treasure Hunter, regarding the ‘soundbite’ from last weeks stream, it comes down to reach. How many people participate, who’s using daily keys, free currencies, who’s spending. It’s done in a granular way, not purely based on highest. Would be “diluting ourselves” if it was based on free key usage.
- Mod Warden: Sentiment is the first litmus test to see how the players feel. This happens with things even like the double XP weekends.
- How is the approach different now than October? The speed of changes have amplified. The RNG aspects are being addressed and that’s what Jagex wants to move forward with. Transparency is important (i.e. glass case). Player choice is super important. Blind choice is being worked towards removed. Baby steps and bigger moves on the way.
- Yak Track was super popular, will be doing more of those. The glass case “gone yakking” will be done again. Ring of Shards got great feedback. Another coming in March will allow you to pick your own rewards and build your own chest.
- The Treasure Hunter drop rates are on the main screen now.
- Everything new will have choice and transparency. Older promos will see choice added where applicable.
- Rare token reward store rework is in the works.
- Vic the Trader comes around twice a year or so. Want to do it more, will be back more often. Once a quarter.
- Mod Warden answering from chat: iOS beta is coming, needs to be done in the right way, Apple is restrictive in their beta program.
- Another from chat answered by Warden: Sights on the duel arena, want to do something with it, part of the duty of care plan.
- Not in the place yet to talk about all the updates of 2020 yet. The evasiveness has caused a lot of fear that Archaeology may not come until the second half of the year.
- Longevity testing: How much of this looking forward needs to be implemented to launch. A go/no-go decision is coming soon.
- “We’ve never really had the luxury of a position that Mod Warden has offered us. Which is to get Archaeology right, longevity testing, making sure it feels alive from an art perspective. It has made the content so so much better.” — Mod Osborne.
- Go/no-go meeting: Internally there’s a date, with all the testing feedback, is that date still set? It’s not go/no-go as in don’t launch Archaeology.
- More time than any previous skill will be spent post launch. The story will be continuing in other updates. Archaeology will factor into requirements for content.
- The most story oriented skill produced, even more so than Dungeoneering.
- Mod Warden learned about the weather system plan recently. The weather system was talked about RuneFest 2016. Weather systems never really caught on.
- 2020 Roadmap and Future Content
- What role do the executive producer and lead designer play in the process of a roadmap? Was hard for Mod Warden coming in late to have an impact on 2020.
- In the phase right now mapping out the different quarters. Finding out where there may be cases of overcommitting and under delivering.
- The RuneScape team needs to see a leadership team that’s working really well together. The leadership team needs to work with the dev team really well.
- In previous years at this point the road map would’ve been announced. What Warden has brought is a sense of needing to make sure that what’s on the list can be done and done will. An additional level of rigour that hasn’t been done before. Fewer chances for a comp cape rework or weapon diversity this year.
- Content cadence and how the game is commercialized should be unified with content updates.
- Currently going through a “sizing exercise” to determine where overcommitting or under delivering, from there, get it into a form that can be discussed with the company and team mates, then a thumbs up/thumbs down.
- T-shirt sizing: Setting the size for specific content XS, S, M, L, XL. Build feature teams that will own and deliver the products. This includes looking at the number of devs, artists, QA, a product owner or manager.
- What about the quest team talked about previously? Mod Warden needs to have his finger prints over everything. The top 5 things talked about at RuneFest are still there. I.e. Archaeology and Managing Miscellanea.
- No February month ahead - need breathing room to get everything in place.
- Building a strategy around quality of life, huge part of the “2020 story.” Has to be a massive focus, empowering teams to be in a position to put a smile on a players face.
- Mod Warden has received hundreds of emails. Some are 12 paragraphs long. Things sent have been put into notes and sent to the product managers.
- Last Wednesday/Thursday received an email about a bug with prestiging the aquarium. Fix was checked in that evening, in RC the next day, fix came out this week.
- Live ops is working on a quest.
- Reducing number of worlds? A worthy conversation, ask the players perhaps. Osborne is a fan of getting people in the same place playing, resolved issues of competing for space. Mod Warden says it should be what gives the best player experience.
- Design decisions about making new Slayer creatures? One of the things with Slayer should never have that boss degree of strategy. Tend to look for one or two abstractions from the norm. 99-120 still isn’t as filled out as they would like. Slayer monsters largely feel too similar.
- RS3 time limited game modes? Possibility — a lot of love for Dark Scape, Mod Warden found that very fascinating. Some talking of what may be required to do a seasonal Dark Scape. Might not be as big of a job as thought it would be. Nothing active planned.
- Activity pets are at the concept stage. Will be sent to the third party studio. They might be released when ready or when there’s a bit of a content lull.
- If a dev asks a question Twitter, it’s probably just a conversation starter. Roadmaps are built pulling from multiple sources. If something is to become official it will be posted on the website and in the in game poll.
